All Georgia State University students, faculty, and staff can borrow books from other University System of Georgia (USG) libraries through GIL Express. You can place a "GIL Express request" to send the book to any GSU campus from the owning library. This service is free. GIL Express books take 2-10 business days to arrive and usually check out for 28 days.

How to place a GIL Express request using the library catalog:

If you want, you can watch this video. Otherwise, follow the directions below.

GIL Express step-by-step walkthrough instructions:

  1. In the library catalog, first make sure the drop-down menu to the right of the search bar is on University Systems of Georgia instead of Georgia State University, as seen in the image below.Search bar with University systems of Georgia highlighted in drop down.

  2. Now search for the title or author of the item you are looking for.

  1. Next, click on the item. This will open a new window that will show you the more detailed information. You are looking for the section called "Get It." Under this section, you should see which USG school has the item and if it is available or not.

  1. If you aren't already logged into your library account, sign in with your campus ID and password. You can do this by clicking right in the "Get It" section. Click on the university, and you should see a bar prompting you to log in to see more options.

  1. Click the arrow to the right of one of the libraries to get more information and to open a request box. It may take a moment to load.

  1. Click Request. (If you do not see the Request button, you are probably not signed in.)
Select your pick-up location from the drop-down menu and click Request.

  1. Check your library account to make sure the request was successful and monitor your request's status. When the status is "On hold," the item is ready to be picked up. You will also receive an email when the request is available for pick up.
