How can I get a copy of an article the library doesn’t own?
You can get a copy of a journal article not owned by Georgia State University by placing an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request. The article will be delivered to you digitally as a PDF file. The turnaround time is typically 24-48 hours. Visit the Interlibrary Loan website to learn more about ILL and to place your request.
There are two ways you can place a request:
-
From an article you’ve found in GSU databases that is not available full text (These will have a FindIt@GSU Button.)
-
From an article citation, you’ve found elsewhere.
How to request an article you’ve found in GSU databases:
1. Follow the Find it @ GSU button to see if full text is available. Sometimes this will lead you to another database with the article.
2. If the Find It button leads you to a screen saying that no full text is available (see image below), just click the link that says, “Request via Interlibrary Loan.”
3. On the Interlibrary Loan page, you will be asked to sign in with your Campus ID. The article information will automatically populate on the form, and you can fill in any missing information and submit the request.
4. How do I receive my article? (See below)
How to request an article from a citation you’ve found elsewhere:
-
Go to the ILL request form and log in with your GSU credentials
-
From the New Request menu, select Journal Article.
-
Fill out the form using the information you’ve found in the citation.
-
If possible, include the source of your citation. (e.g., it’s in Google Scholar, it’s from a reference list in an article named ____, etc. Pasting in the citation or linking to its source can help.)
How do I receive my article?
1. It usually takes only a few days for your article to arrive. To check the status, you can log into your ILLiad account.
2. When your article is available, you’ll receive an email in your GSU email account from the library that looks like this:
3. The email will contain a link to log in to your ILLiad account.
4. Look for the area called "Electronically Received Articles."
5. You’ll see the PDF for the article you requested. Download, save or print the article.
6. Items will be deleted from the system in 30 days.
