You may place supplementary course material on reserve at any of the campusesPerimeter campuses even have rocks for geology classes!

Course reserves of physical items are managed by the Circulation Department at each campus library. Just bring the items to the library and be prepared to fill out a form describing information such as the loan period desired (2-hour, 3-day, or 1-week) and if the item is restricted to library/campus use only. Electronic reserves for all campuses are handled by the downtown campus. Visit the faculty course reserves page for information about both print, and e-reserves and to access the Electronic Course Reserves form.

To find out if an item is already on reserve, check the library catalog (using the drop-down menu for “reserves”) or ask a librarian.

Here are some details about different types of reserve materials:

  1. Textbooks. The library does not purchase student textbooks but accepts donations from departments, faculty, or other sources. Course reserves are not intended to replace students purchasing their own textbooks--however, there might be some OER options. Look at our Faculty Select guide to learn about requesting and finding OER or affordable textbook options.

  1. Instructor's materials. Instructors may bring items they personally own to place on reserve. We do our best to take care of these items, but we cannot accept responsibility if the items are lost, damaged, or not returned.

  1. Library materials. You may request that one or more copies of materials owned by the library be placed on course reserve. The shortened loan periods help ensure that all students have access to the material. Library materials can only be placed on reserve for a short period of time (usually a few weeks or a semester; this is at the discretion of the library and is based on demand). Items obtained from GIL Express or Interlibrary loan cannot be placed on reserve. Reserve items are available to all students, not just students from a given class.

  1. Non-original copies (such as photocopies). All copies must be legally made from originals and adhere to fair use guidelines, including the amount of the original work copied and the length of time the item is on reserve. Items that do not comply with fair use guidelines will be refused.

Directions for print/physical item reserve requests are available on the Course Reserves for Faculty page.
